Mainframe z/VM Engineer

 

Job Summary:

The role requires the full spectrum of systems builds, apply maintenance, applications testing support and production implementation to migrate the Solaris-based applications to a Linux on System z platform.

Location: Anywhere (Remote – telework)

Minimum requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or 3-year resident due to Government contract stipulations.
  • Communication skills are key for the environment.
  • Experience with IBM mainframes
  • Technical Team lead experience preferred
  • Experience with z/VM RACF, TCPIP, DIRMAINT, SSL certificates, Operations Manager, Velocity software
  • Possession of strong organizational skills, with the ability to work on multiple tasks with multiple deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities
  • Ability to be a self-starter and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in designing and maintaining a process to provide usable performance data for capacity planning using appropriate z/VM performance software.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining controls and mediation methods to diagnose performance issues of z/Linux guests down to the application level using z/VM performance software.
  • Assist in establishing the RACF process to generate reports to allow for proper auditing of z/VM functions to meet IRS standards.
  • Documenting and executing z/VM and z/Linux guest DR testing processes.
  • Identify, track, and provide acceptable resolution of operational issues/risks.
  • Perform and/or assist in installation and development of software to provide automated operations of the z/VM environment.
  • Provide installation and customization of z/VM software to support the z/Linux initiative.
  • Provide operational support for the z/VM environment and software to support the z/Linux initiative.

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or a related field required
